Mask Makeup

While still adjusting to our “new normal”, there are some ways we can still be cute while wearing our masks that cover half of our face. Although it may not be the best idea to do a full face of makeup since it’ll just rub off and not be seen, we can definitely play up our eyes and do some other little makeup tricks for times when your mask may not be on the entire time.

First, we need to establish a great skincare routine. Wearing masks daily can cause some break outs and irritation, but having a good routine for your skin can help eliminate that. My main tool for skincare is my Clarisonic sonic cleansing brush. I’ve noticed clearer, softer skin and less breakouts since using it daily. As you may have heard, Clarisonic is shutting down on September 30th, so I’ve been on the hunt for another sonic brush for when I run out of replacement brush heads for my device. I’ve been looking into the PMD Beauty silicone sonic brushes and I’m pretty obsessed with the Clean Pro RQ after seeing many reviews; I’ll let you guys know what I think after trying it! (p.s. they’re offering 35% off for Clarisonic customers)

Anyway, let’s streamline your routine. Try to stay away from harsh facial scrubs, exfoliants, and thick creams because those can all clog your pores and that may not be best while having to wear these face masks. Opt for a gentle cleanser, hydrating toner, and a gel moisturizer or light serum. Look for products that contain hyaluronic acid and aloe because these prioritize soothing your skin from the irritation that some face masks can cause.

If possible, skip wearing foundation to keep your skin clean and free. If you must wear foundation, try choosing lightweight formulas or tinted moisturizers to the exposed areas. You can even just use a little concealer to even out your skin in some areas instead of applying foundation. Blot your skin after application so as to remove the top layer of the makeup that would rub off under your mask.

Next, let’s give some attention to the eyes, since that’s the main facial feature visible now-a-days. Groom your brows, amp up your lashes, and have some fun with your lids. Maybe try out some new eyeshadow colors or techniques, practice your winged liner, and even play around with some shimmer or crystals.

Although we can’t see your lips most times, it’s important to keep them moisturized. First, I use my Dior Lip Sugar Scrub to make sure my lips are smooth and free of dead skin. My favorite lip balm right now is by Jack Black and has shea butter and vitamin E. It keeps my lips soft and moisturized all day without having to reapply too often, which causes it to last a while before having to get a new tube. While going on the occasional outing to eat, I like to apply a liquid lipstick or a stain so I can still have cute lips without getting it all over the inside of my mask.

Below are some links where you can find cute face masks to go with your make up looks. I personally favor the silk or satin masks because they are softer on the skin and I want something that is less likely to cause my face to breakout while wearing them for long periods of time. Don’t forget to wash your reusable masks regularly.

I hope these skincare and makeup tips help! Although we have to wear face masks in public, that doesn’t mean we can’t make our eyes pop some. Don’t forget to smize! (smile with your eyes!)
